FAQs About Silk Painting Workshops
- Where do I buy online via mail order in Australia?
Silk Painting Suppliers in Australia >>
- How do I enlarge a photo big enough to make a wallhanging etc?
- Answer: Pop over to http://www.blockposters.com/ Upload your photo of your sketch etc, specify how many pages wide and long, your result will be saved as a PDF for you to download and print - easy peasy!
- What is a ballpoint needle?
Answer: A ballpoint needle has a teeny tiny ball embedded in the sharp end, so that it glides between fibres when you're sewing. Pop into a fabric store where you can buy sewing machine needles - ask for a "ballpoint" needle -- I've had much success with these in sewing silk without snagging the fibres. - What is the correct "weight" of silk to purchase?
Answer: Habotai / Jap Silk (a shiny tight weave silk) is the quality of silk we used in the Workshop, and the weight of the fabric is 8 mommie ("mommie" can be 5, 8, 10, 12 etc). Work with that until you feel ready to try a thicker, thirstier silk. Bear in mind that the heavier weight silk soaks up a LOT more dye, so your project can become quite expensive.
TEENA'S TIP!
Don't forget to make notes about your experiments in your special SILK PAINTING NOTEBOOK (you did start one ... didn't you?)! :-)
